Who is Salley Ashley?
An Afghanistan war veteran, proud Army wife, caring daughter, and loving
owner of two domestic cats. She's written [and kept] over 50 poems to date and
is currently in pursuit of publication with her first completed novel. Although the
publication process is not an easy feat, she's willing to conquer the odds. "I've
always said that I would make my mark in life and I refuse to give up!" Ashley
proclaims.
Her first publication promises to give her readers (young adults and adults) a
wide range of entertainment; with action, romance, and fantasy all in one book.
The first book of an expected trilogy introduces a man-made island
occupied by 'good' vampires who protect man-kind from 'bad'
vampires. The bulk of this story was written during her tour of duty as
a U.S. Army soldier serving in Afghanistan. "A lot of the soldiers would
read over it to give me their opinion." Ashley explains. "There's one
character [in the book] based loosely on a particular soldier, as a
thank you for reading it so much."
Now Ashley is seeking the perfect agent to represent her and the
accomplishment she made while serving her country. One rejection
letter after another, she continues to hold her head high. "I knew
when I started to submit to agencies and publishers that there's a
high volume of rejection, it's just a part of it." says Ashley "My dad
really helps to keep me motivated and pushes me to keep trying." She
also claims to call her father on a daily basis.
The woman behind the written works expresses a love for photography, art, and helping those in need.
She created a club in an art community called deviantART, which is geared toward helping young
writers improve at their own pace. "I don't think a good story necessarily means good grammar," Ashley
expresses, "the emotion behind it is more important than a few squiggles and dots, the story happens
first, the grammar can come later."
Her compassion, determination, and commitment should be an inspiration to all unpublished writers.
